Top Tips & FAQ’s
The information below should answer many of the most common questions that our brides have.
However if you have any questions not answered here, please get in touch.
For most brides to be, being newly engaged starts a new chapter in their lives and there is the temptation to go mega bridal gown hunting, trying on every dress to find that certain style. Our best advice to you would be to not to do this until you are ready to commit to a dress. Trying too many styles in our experience makes it harder to come to a decision and of course, you never want to fall head over heels in love with a dress that you are not in a position to order or purchase on that day.
Chose family members or friends whose opinions you value most. while you may want to bring along many of your closest friends and family members, it can also easily make dress shopping more difficult. It’s hard to listen to your own voice when you are hearing the opinions of others. Bringing along a few of your loved ones keeps the experience special and focused on you.
Around 12-18 months before your wedding is a sensible time to start looking for your dress. We advise that you should aim to order your dress at least 9 months before your wedding to allow time for your dress to be made, delivered and fitted. If you are on a shorter timescale, all our designers offer a rush order, however there is usually a small charge for this. Another option is to purchase one of our sample dresses on sale which can be bought and taken away straight away.
Yes and No! We are an intimate bridal boutique usually open by appointment and do book up in advance. To make a booking, visit our Consultations page. However, we now have ‘Walk in Wednesdays’ so if this suits, we look forward to seeing you then, on a first come, first served basis. Not Wednesday but hoping to come by? Please give us a call, we can sometimes accommodate a last-minute appointment request.
We kindly recommend that you bring at most, 2 – 3 people per appointment and although we adore children, because we’re only small, we ask that you make other arrangements for them, during your time with us. Who should I bring? See our top tip above.
Please come prepared with your shoes and neutral underwear. These should be the ones (or very similar) intended for your event and a strapless bra is a good idea, if you have one. This will help you to see how the wedding dress will look like on the big day.
Standard delivery times from the date of purchase to your dress being delivered are approximately 14 -18 weeks. You are most likely to need a couple of minor alterations so best allow another 4-6 weeks in addition to the delivery time. With that in mind we recommend ordering your wedding dress one year prior to your wedding day, allowing time for production and alterations. Rush orders can often be accommodated, though rush fees do apply. If you find yourself short on time, there is the option to purchase your dress 'off the peg' or take a look at our sample sale dresses
We ask for a 50% deposit. The balance of your gown is due once your dress arrives at Fairytale.

YES, if you would like to pay in instalments, consider it arranged; we will just split the cost into a payment plan and because you came to Fairytale Bride, there will be absolutely no interest whatsoever.
Because we have limited space we do not have in-house alterations. You will find that there are plenty of independent seamstresses and this way each Bride is welcome to choose the seamstress of their choice to their satisfaction.
You might be pleased to know that the majority of our dresses are sampled in sizes 12-18 with our 'Curvy' ranges sampled in sizes 18 - 30, though we do carry a selection of sample gowns in smaller and larger sizes. We understand it can sometimes be difficult to envision your wedding dress when the sample size is less than a perfect fit, and we have clips and tricks to help give you a very good idea. Our aim is to dress brides of all shapes and sizes, and we are continually adding a range of sample sizes to our dress collection.
We do not have a waiting area so if you do arrive early, please feel free to visit one of our local tea rooms around the village centre or maybe try something more ‘organic’ at the Cafe’ opposite.
If you find a dress you like while browsing our website and we do not have it as a sample dress, it is possible in most cases to obtain it as a loan dress from the designer concerned. We can check the availability and order it in, whilst arranging a convenient appointment for you to try it on. Most designers will levy a charge for this which must be paid beforehand but Fairytale Bride will be delighted to refund this in full if you decide to purchase the dress.
